May 2022 : Day excursion Tavira

Following the February lecture by Sandra Cavaco and Jaquelina Covaneiro about Tavira, a day exursion was organized to Tavira on May 17th.  Sandra, barely recovered from Covid, guided the AAA visitors on a walking tour through this wonderful place, visiting the Porta da Vila, the Solar dos Corte Real, the Castle, the Convento da Graça and the Phoenician Wells.

We had a great lunch at the Restaurant Gilão which was very welcome as walking around Tavira on a rather hot day is not always easy…).

The afternoon was wholly dedicated to the treasures of the Núcleo Islâmico, the highlight being the story and explanation about the jewel of the Museum: the world famous Tavira Vase, made in red clay at the end of 11th / beginning of the 12th century. Amazing stuff!
