A journey through the Archaeology of Serpa (Baixo Alentejo, Portugal)
The Municipal Museum of Archeology of Serpa (Baixo Alentejo, Portugal), under the authority of the municipality, presents a space and a renewed museological concept to a museum that emerged in the 1980s and which reopened to the public on March 24, 2016. This new model evolved after deep intervention involving several entities throughout the process.

With a collection that brings together more than 300 artifacts, it aims to be a showcase of the history of the human communities that occupied and lived in Serpa's territory from the most remote times of the Paleolithic until the arrival of Islam.
In addition to being a guardian of memory, the Municipal Museum of Archeology is also a space for experiences and learning through the promotion of varied activities of dissemination and heritage education, viewing itself as an essential place for understanding the territory.
Biograpy: Miguel Serra is an archeologist, degree in History, variant of Archaeology at the Faculty of Letters of the Coimbra University (1995-1999), who currently works at the Municipality of Serpa. He is a collaborating researcher at the Center for Studies in Archaeology, Arts and Heritage Sciences at the University of Coimbra (http://ceaacp.uc.pt/) and at the Center for African Studies at the University of Porto (https://africanos.eu/index.php/pt/). |
His main areas of research focus on Urban Archaeology, Protohistory, Public and Community Archaeology, Heritage Education and Museology.
