Throughout the more than 40 years of it's existence there have been instructive talks by qualified speakers, pleasant and informative excursions and journeys to archaeological sites near and far, opportunities to take part in excavations and last but not least, chances to meet and make friends with people who share a common interest. From a more elevated point of view the AAA has shown that foreigners are not merely coming to the Algarve for its sun and beaches but also to appreciate the Portuguese cultural heritage. By way of the grants and site visits made over the years we have shown that the work being done by the local archaeologists is appreciated and that their efforts are also acknowledged outside the more academic circles.
